Day 2 The adventure begins

Wow we got to sleep last night about 6:30 or 7 (6:30 for Jo) what a day we were really beat! Jo set the alarm for 6:30 figuring 12 hours would suffice as we were supposed to catch the bus at 8. We awoke to the alarm and got packed, wolfed down a great breakfast of scrambled eggs, the best coffee I've ever had, ice cold pineapple juice, a chunk of pineapple and a slice of excellent watermelon. Turns out the damn busses were already booked solid so we took a cab into San Jose, got our tickets for $2,350 colones total which came to under $10 for the both of us for a 5 hour bus trip which thanks to Mario Andretti at the wheel took 4 hours. Now that's a cheap thrill ride. Actually he did a great job but then he had size on his side. The roads were excellent but plugged with tractor trailors. We stopped after two hours for a 15 minute break and before we knew it we were in Liberia. As soon as we got off (the bus) a cabbie approached us and rather than wait for another hour and a half we got a ride to the door arriving here about 2:30. We were welcomed by Manuel (you had to guess it would either be Manuel or Jose). He apologized for our room as it's not what we had booked but instead we were given a huge room with double bed, a single hideaway and all the appliances! A fridge!!! Yeehaw cold booze. Jo decided we should go for a walk first thing cause we'd been sitting on our asses for two full days. Geez I thought she was going to walk all the way back to Liberia! Well we got to the main drag and found a grocery store & got some local beer. Imperial and Pilsen. Both are excellent. We also got a bottle of Nicaraguan Rum for $10. that meant coke, and then water for my parched throat in the morning. F. Y. I. liquids weigh in at 10# per gallon and I'm getting too bloody old for that kind of hiking. We managed to get home but only because we passed a bar and it was happy hour so Jo felt I deserved some fortifier which was quite true. Nice bar called CocoNutz (We're in Coco beach).
We checked out the beach. It's quite nice with black sand. Didn't sample the water yet though. In fact we didn't even sample the sunset. We sat on the front patio and whacked back some of that rum and I kinda like it. I'd promised the first drink would be for Gerry and he got it. From there on out I enjoyed it more.
We then went down to the pool and met an elderly couple (older than me) from Toronto, Markham and Oakville. They've been here before so I'm looking forward to picking their brains on what to see and where to go.
The temp has been great. Probably in the 80's, low humidity, and no bugs.. Well now your pretty much up to date. It's 10:30, my buzz has gone and it's time for bed.
Jo's been the navigator and bookkeeper and is doing a fine job. My job is to follow, take pictures and haul booze. I'm going to try and download some of the pictures but if it doesn't work you can see them on facebook at the following address

Apparently you can't make comments on this blog (thanks Sally) so save your strength)
Jo's sitting here cackling to herself and said I should add that after all her practising Spanish it worked. The downside was the guy answered her in Spanish. Bad idea. Who the hell understands it?
